Artist #1 Photoshoot - Best Photos

Feature Article Copy

Hi, Scott! Thanks for being here! So, we've all heard your new album, but tell us a little about the man behind the music.

Well, I'm 23 and I grew up in the North East, studying art. I wanted to be a concept artist. But then I moved to the South and began taking my music seriously, which started as just a hobby. I'd play odd gigs every now and then at my local pub but when I moved I decided to study music.

Do you still do art as a hobby?
Yeah, and photography actually. I have a little flip notebook I carry everywhere with me for little doodles, lyric and music ideas and stuff. I always keep my camera and a pencil handy. I'm also an avid vinyl record collector. I'm a big fan of the vintage feel and the nostalgia. My favourite record at the moment is Arctic Monkeys' album, AM. I'm a big fan of their's.

What influenced and inspired your new album?
My vinyl record collection inspired me. I wanted to make an album that would sound fantastic on vinyl. I love the warm, nostalgic sound and feel. There's nothing like it! But this album is also really close to my heart because its influenced by home. It was written with home and family in mind, things I hold close to me.

How have you handled the sudden fame?
I'm honestly overwhelmed! It's insane! I'm being recognized everywhere and my fans numbers are growing rapidly. I never thought I'd ever get here; it's amazing. However, like I said before, I still keep my family and friends close. I'll never sacrifice them for my career.

So, what's next for you?
Gosh, I haven't even thought about the future! I'm taking every day as it comes. I'm hoping to go on tour maybe next year and I've already made a start on a couple of new songs. So yeah, get excited for those!

Artist #2 Planning

Name: Sareena Colt
Genre: Indie Acoustic
I have decided to do my photo shoot for this artist outside - surrounded by trees and woodland - instead of in a studio, in front of a white or black backdrop. This is more interesting to look at and captures the feel of my artist and their music.
In the photo shoot, my artist will be wearing an outfit similar to in my moodboard.
I will use a fast shutter speed to capture clear photos of my artist but I might experiment with a slow shutter speed for a dreamy effect. Also, I will use a shallow depth of field to make the artist clear and crisp while blurring the background. This will make the artist the focus of the image without the busy woodland background to distract from them.

These inspired his new album. He's 23 and grew up in the North East but now lives in Reading with his girlfriend. He studied music and art, originally wanting to be a concept artist.

Photo Shoot Planning

Mood board of ideas for poses/locations to consider:

I have decided to do my photo shoot for this artist outside - on a road or in a field - instead of in a studio, in front of a white or black backdrop. This is more interesting to look at and captures the feel of my artist and their music. In the photo shoot, my artist will be wearing a beanie and a sweater or flannel shirt and will be holding an acoustic guitar.

Indie Magazine Planning

Masthead Designs

TRACK
This font is simple but easy to read and effective. It isn’t a usual font choice for magazines’ mastheads but I think it suits the style and genre of my magazine while still being bold enough to catch my target readership’s eye. This is the font I have chosen.
T R A C K
This font is unusual for a magazine’s masthead but I think it suits my magazine’s style and genre. It looks like it has been handwritten, which makes it interesting but it might not be bold and eye catching enough.

This font is more similar to a traditional magazine’s masthead but is still different and interesting. I think it suits my magazine’s style and genre, getting my target readership’s attention.

These are my masthead design ideas for my front cover. The first one is my chosen font with half a vinyl record on top of it. My second one is my chosen font with an arrow underneath it. These fit the indie style, attracting my target readership. I particularly like the vinyl record so I will be using that as my masthead, also incorporating it into my house style.
